Updates on Hurricane Helene

Weather Advisory Helene Update Brenau University

All Brenau University campuses will be closed Thursday and Friday due to the predicted impact of Hurricane Helene. Forecasts from the National Weather Service include the potential for high winds, heavy rain, flooding and power outages throughout Gainesville and the metro Atlanta area.

All in-person classes and on-campus events are canceled. Online classes and assignments should continue as planned; however, students with circumstances that prevent them from accessing courses should contact their instructor.

Food service will remain open on the Historic Gainesville Campus, and security can be reached for any residential students who need assistance. Residential students should talk to their RAs about the severe weather plan for their residence hall, including what to do in case of a power loss.

President David L. Barnett will continue to monitor the situation at Brenau’s campuses in Gainesville and Norcross.

“At this time, I expect Brenau’s campuses to resume normal operations on Monday, Sept. 30, but I encourage the Brenau community to monitor the website and area media outlets for updates,” Barnett said. “Gov. Brian Kemp has issued a state of emergency across Georgia, and I urge everyone to be safe and prepare for the severe weather conditions that have been forecast for our area.”

Brenau students, faculty and staff can take the following steps to prepare for the anticipated severe weather:

  • Log into e2campus to ensure your contact information is correct and choose how you receive alerts. This service is available for parents of Brenau students as well.
  • Make sure your cell phone is fully charged.
  • Find additional tips on how to be severe weather-ready at https://www.ready.gov/severe-weather.
