The U.S. Department of Education requires compliance with state regulations of any state in which Brenau University provides distance/online education for students. To facilitate this compliance with state regulations, this institution is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA).
NC-SARA allows Brenau to offer distance education in 49 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Although California is not a SARA participating state, prospective students may take classes at Brenau. Prospective students should contact the department corresponding to his or her program of interest for additional information about reciprocity.

Accounting
Brenau University’s Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) program is designed to meet the accounting education requirements for CPA exam eligibility in Georgia and other U.S. jurisdictions, including Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. However, professional licensure and certification requirements vary by state and territory. While our program curriculum meets the educational standards for CPA exam eligibility in many jurisdictions, it is the student’s responsibility to verify the specific requirements for both sitting for the CPA exam and obtaining licensure in the state or jurisdiction where they plan to practice.
Students are encouraged to contact their jurisdiction’s Board of Accountancy to ensure compliance with any additional educational or business-related requirements for CPA licensure.
Education
Attention Georgia Educators: Individuals who are contemplating pursuit of advanced degrees for the purpose of certification/pay upgrades should be aware that programs completed at out-of-state institutions have not, in all likelihood, been approved for certification/pay upgrades in Georgia. Educators certified in Georgia should verify with their employer or the GaPSC whether the advanced degree leads to a certificate upgrade or pay increase. The GaPSC provides the Certificate Upgrade Advisor to assist with this process. Out-of-state applicants should also verify with their employer or certification body to verify that this advanced degree will lead to a certificate upgrade or pay increase in their respective state.

Student Complaints to the State of Georgia: Federal regulations require that each state designate a department or agency to be responsible for receiving and responding to complaints made by students against a postsecondary institution operating within that state. In the state of Georgia, the designated agency is the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission (GNPEC). Students and other constituents who wish to make a complaint against Brenau University or any other private postsecondary institutions operating in Georgia may do so by following the complaint procedures on GNPEC’s website.
