Celebrate Native American Heritage Month

Dan Akee

November is Native American Heritage Month and while enjoying the change of seasons, we encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the rich culture, traditions, history, significant contributions and sacrifices of Native Americans. To celebrate these remarkable people, consider visiting one of these places:

The Museum of the Cherokee Indian in Cherokee, North Carolina

Just a two-hour trip north of Gainesville lies the Museum of the Cherokee Indian in Cherokee, North Carolina. There, visitors can explore 13,000 years of Cherokee history at the “Story of the Cherokee” exhibit, witness the Warriors of AniKituhwa perform the Cherokee War Dance and Eagle Tail Dance, and learn about the Cherokee language.

Virtual tour of the National Museum of the American Indian
