Thank you to all who attended investiture

Mike Smith gives David Barnett the University Seal

Brenau University’s fall semester is well underway, and campuses are once again bustling with activity.

This semester began with special excitement for me. I was honored that some 1,000 students, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni, special guests and community members joined me for the investiture ceremony on Aug. 22. Their participation, along with those watching the livestream, made it a special day for the university and for me personally. You can see photos, the text of my speech on “A Thriving Future,” and more details from the day on the Presidential Investiture page.

As I stated during my speech, I am confident that a thriving future is attainable for Brenau, for our students, for our faculty and staff, and for our community because I believe in the good work we are capable of achieving.

Brenau’s motto, “as gold refined by fire,” speaks to the university igniting a fire in the minds of future innovators and cultivating transformative leaders for northeast Georgia and beyond. This fall semester, let us all remember our commitment to Brenau’s students.

I also encourage Brenau’s students to remember your commitment to pursuing your studies, for you are the future innovators and community leaders who will make a difference in the world.

Brenau will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, for the Labor Day holiday. I hope you all enjoy the long holiday weekend and return renewed and focused on doing your part to ensure Brenau’s continued success.

I believe with every fiber of my being that if we collectively dare to dream big, with a focus on meeting our communities’ needs through the investment of our time, talents, and treasures, a thriving future is on our horizon.

Thank you for all you do now and all you will do in the months and years ahead to ensure a thriving future for Brenau.
