I’m excited to welcome another academic year at Brenau and look forward to a successful year for our students, faculty and staff.
Like most universities, Brenau holds a convocation at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Convocation comes from the Latin word for “to call or come together,” and that’s what the Brenau community does at these events – we come together to prepare for another semester.
This year, the fall convocation will be an event that has special significance for Brenau University and me personally – a presidential investiture ceremony.
I was honored earlier this year to have been selected by the Brenau Board of Trustees as the eleventh president of Brenau. On Aug. 22, the date scheduled for convocation, the Board of Trustees and the university will hold an investiture ceremony.
An investiture is usually held for university presidents who previously have been serving as interim. It often is incorporated into established dates on the school calendar, like convocation. The president is conferred with the articles and symbols of the office and of the institution in an event that celebrates the school’s history and its future.
All current faculty, staff and students are cordially invited to attend the Aug. 22 ceremony. If you have not already done so, I ask you to RSVP today. The local community is invited to join us for a reception on Brenau’s Front Lawn following the ceremony so we may all unite, celebrate, and look forward to the strides we will make together.
Higher education is a tapestry woven together from threads of personal ambition, community investment and collective achievement. As the university embarks on the next chapter of its already remarkable history, I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the university in collectively shaping its future.
