Apply your experience and education as a teacher by pursuing the Master of Arts in Teaching degree program. This 100% online program prepares students, who already have a bachelor’s degree in another discipline, to transition to becoming classroom teachers in elementary school, middle school, high school or special education. The curriculum focuses heavily on classroom instructional skills, and after you graduate and pass the GACE certification exam, you will be certified and possess the tools and experience you need to better the lives of your students.
The Master of Arts in Teaching has four program options
Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education
The Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education prepares students who have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in any subject for initial certification to teach pre-K through 5th grade.
Master of Arts in Teaching in Middle Grades Education
The Master of Arts in Teaching in Middle Grades Education prepares students who have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in any subject for initial certification to teach 4th grade through 8th grade. Students in this program will choose two concentrations to better prepare for the classroom after graduation. Concentration options are English language arts, mathematics, reading, science and social studies.
Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education
The Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education prepares students who have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in specific majors for initial certification to teach 6th through 12th grade. The following majors will be considered for the Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education

- History (or related social science)

Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education
The Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education prepares students who have a bachelor’s degree in any subject from an accredited institution for initial certification to teach general special education curriculum, from Pre-K through 12th grade.

Admissions requirements
To be considered for this program the applicant must meet all of the following requirements:
- 2.75 GPA on all college transcripts
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Note: Brenau may consider an applicant who does not meet all stated requirements, but who, in the opinion of the appropriate department, may be a good candidate for admission to the University. Coursework taken at another university may be eligible for transfer if the credit matches the Brenau M.A.T. curriculum. A maximum of six credit hours will be considered if the students achieved a grade of a ‘B’ or higher.
